A flag that shows our true colours

Tuesday 11 February 2014
Should we change the NZ flag?

WALT - develop our own ideas using information from text.

I think we should keep our flag how it is because of all the war that happened, also all our soldiers that fought for us and died under our flag. People love this flag that we have right now and if we change it what are we going to be represent by just by a black silver fern, rubbish how about if our athletes go to the Olympics and wave a flag that has a silver fern on it. That won’t represent us at all, just by changing our flag to a fern representing our rugby team they not the only ones that live in our country. Also the koru patterns what does that have to do with our country that is like Maori patterns, our country is filled with different cultures so they need to feel welcome as well.

Mark Lowndes

On Wednesday the 13 of February, we were lucky enough to interview Mark Lowndes. He is famous for his appearance in Australia’s Got Talent. Miss Aireen organised our interview, which we did online using Google Chat. I learnt that Mark Lowndes favourite colour is Green and Black. He loves inspiring people with his music because he wants everyone that wants to achieve make their dreams come true. He is Half Samoan and Half Pakeha. He has been singing for 12 years. He says to be patient because it takes time for your dreams to come true. I felt Happy that we were going to meet a singer because I what to know how he has felt through his singing courier.

My Individual Description

Kia Ora, my name is Hineuwera and I go to the beautiful school Tamaki Primary School. I am a Year 7 student there. At school I love to learn new things from my teacher. This is a good opportunity for me because when I grow up I can get a good job for my family and to achieve this I have to try hard in my learning. If I would to achieve this I will feel so proud of myself. I have brown eyes that shine like diamonds. I have dark black hair, when it is night, you can’t see it.

My Family
I come from a family of 3.  I am the oldest and I found it hard being the oldest because I have to do everything, but I think the oldest is the most responsible person in the whole family. My brother is the cheeky monkey, that loves to jump on my bed everyday. Paki is the mermaid, that loves to sing peacefully in the rain. Mum is the gymnast, that loves to show off.  I am the lonely dolphin, that loves to swim in the sea. Dad is the king, that never lets anything happens to us. My Family is the most caring and loving family. I really love my family so much. I would do anything for my family because they are the most precious thing that you can ever have. Remember one thing: Family is the best thing that life has given you, so I suggest that you love your family as much as I do.

My Community is Panmure.  It is very peaceful and lovely. When you go past people in the morning everybody says “Good Morning.” Or, “Have a nice day.” I love that way that they do that, because people make you feel welcome and make your day better. I also love the way people talk to each other nicely and happily. But there is one thing challenging us, and that is poverty. I think each and every person should not be poor, because everyday I see people starving on T.V and all the time I feel sad for them. So I believe that people should have food everyday.

I love to dance when I hear music, it makes me feel that I am on top of the world. I also like to swim in the sea because I love to hear the sound of the sea. I love walking around the basin with my mum because it makes me fit and healthy. I love watching movies and eating popcorn at the same time.

One of my hopes for this year is to go over the National Standards and to complete things I have to.  I need to work hard in class and try my best in everything, no matter what it is. If I get above the National Standards, I will be proud of myself that I can achieve my goals. I would love to achieve my goals this year so I can be on the right track for college.

Saving Energy

Do you save energy?

You are probably thinking “Yes , I save energy” but do you really? Are you telling the truth? Because if energy is still being wasted, then terrible things could happen like Global Warming.

Global Warming.
Global warming might occur if we don’t save energy and in places like the Arctic and Antarctica. The ice could melt and endanger thousands of animals such as  the Polar bear and Penguins.Antarctica and the Arctic used to be beautiful places with their never ending ice and glittering snow but look at them now.Snow has been melting and ice falling into the depths of the sea.Penguins are becoming homeless because of the ice falling and Polar bears have to travel far to find food.  In hot places the climax has been changing rapidly causing the balance of the earth to fall out of place.

Climate change
Climate change is when the weather changes unexpectedly.
Climate change is beginning to happen and it is not a good thing for the Earth. Already the Earth is showing many signs of worldwide climate change and it is becoming a big problem. If we don’t do something about this, than climate change could ruin the balance of nature and change the Earth. Climate change is making Antarctica hotter, causing it to melt. In islands like Tokelau and Tuvalu climate change is creating a rise in sea levels, that are surrounding them making the islands smaller. This is a huge problem that could change the Earth forever. What can we do about this?

How we can help?
We can help by doing things like shortening our shower times , playing outside once in awhile instead of playing on computer and watching T.V. , turning off lights when we are not using them and taking public transport sometimes to save petrol.Even by doing just a little bit we can save energy.  Slow down global warming, stop climate change and keep the Earth clean. If over half of the world did just a tiny bit to save energy we could help our earth. This will be a good opportunity to help the animals and save our beautiful planet.

My Garden Description.

The main theme of this garden is ‘whanau’. That’s why there’s a heart shaped pond in the heart of the garden. It obviously represents love and it’s a great view from the tree house in the Pohutukawa tree where children can play. Under the tree is a bench which can spin around and you can relax on it under the shade of the tree and there’s a tap there too. Children can also plant their own plants behind the vege garden on the left. There are tools at the end of every garden bench so you can plant more or take out plants. There is also a medicine garden at the bottom of the pond. Near the medicine garden is a bench where you can use the medicine plants. You can prepare the medicine in the pot next to the bench. The flowers near the pond is for the view and show. And lastly there is a compost mount behind the veges on the right for recycling and we put it behind the garden because it woudn’t fit with the other plants.
